Sunday Plein Air Visit

Pergola view by Wright
Pergola view by Wright

Just had a Sunday plein air adventure in my back yard with two of my fellow outlaw artists, Jimmy and Michelle.  We spent the afternoon painting our versions of the same view from where we were sitting on the patio and chatting about art and life.  It is amazing how much you can learn from working with fellow artists in that kind of setting.  The view was through the pergola out to a section of garden with Siberian irises and rose campion in bloom...... Our takes on the view were all so different and interesting how we each capture our very different visions.  The session has inspired me to do more of these sessions and to try water colors for these times as they both used them and they seem to be a great medium for expressing the composition, light and shadow and color in a quick impression.  They used these water pens that were amazing as compared to dealing with brushes.  Then I figure I can rework my pieces in pastel back in the studio if so inspired.  Next time we will go down by the river or on the bridge near the island that is Jurassic like in the summer with giant ferns and wild with imaginary things as well as lush and verdant in plants and flowers and trees.........This piece is one done by Jimmy Wright.

I am so honored to be part of the outlaw artist group and featured on your blog. Thank you! I can't wait to spend some time down by the Connecticut river working with you and learning about your water and sky techniques; you paint amazing water and sky scenes!
